The art of custom splinting is a challenging skill
to master. Therapist should have the knowledge of splinting principles, body
biomechanics, surface anatomy and mastery over the control of the materials
through understanding their properties, characteristics and “feel”.
The purpose of this workshop is to enhance practical
knowledge of splinting techniques for a variety of upper extremity conditions.
Objectives:
Upon
completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

INSTRUCTORS
Shovan
Saha acquired his BOT from National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research, Utkal University, Orissa in 1994 and
MOT from Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and Hospital, Mumbai University, Bombay in 1996.
After having worked in Delhi and Mumbai, he is associated
with Manipal University since 1997, and presently working as Associate Professor and Head, Dept. of Occupational Therapy,
Manipal College of Allied Health Sciences, Manipal University.
He has several publications in IJOT, WFOT Bulletin, Plastic Surgery Journal,
OB & Gynaecology Journal, Australian J of OT [in press] and has chapters in text books on Plastic Surgery & Dementia.
He has numerous conference presentation
at OT Conferences and Conferences of other disciplines as well.
His area of clinical expertise has been in Hand Splinting and Hand Rehabilitation.
He has been an invited speaker on numerous occasions on his subject of expertise at various part of the country and internationally.
The various countries where he has been invited as an international speaker are Singapore, Muscat, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Cape
Town, and Riyadh. He has the distinction of sharing international forums to the likes of WFOT and IFSHT Presidents both past
and present.
He
is the architect for starting a short term course on Hand Splinting, the one of its kind in entire Asia and is listed with
International Federation of Societies for Hand Therapy and recently been felicitated [Jan, 2013] by Manipal University for
successfully training 25 batches of OTs.
He is recipient of numerous professional awards and recognitions both nationally and internationally,
namely AIOTA Trophies [5 times], FACOT Award, Best Teacher Award [2 times] by Manipal University, Outstanding postgraduate
by LTM Medical College- Mumbai, Maddak International Award-USA, Asia-Pacific Who’s Who in OT, special nomination for
Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Humanitarian City Excellence in Rehabilitation Award- Dubai.
Have been the principle investigator in WFOT Projects.
He has served AIOTA since 2000
in various capacities – EC Member, Hon. Secretary, Ex-officio, Website Convenor, Chairman Scientific Program Committee
and is currently the EC Member of ACOT. He has been instrumental in streamlining various procedural aspects of AIOTA’s
functioning including the AIOTA Conference Manual, AIOTA Website, Membership Directory, AIOTA Trophies in students category.
He also has held responsibilities
in various professional capacities- Human factor consultant to Centroid Engineers India Pvt. Ltd., Coimbatore, consultant

Sanjiv
Kumar has completed his Master in Occupational Therapy (MOT) from Manipal
college of Allied Health Sciences, Manipal University in 2004 and Bachelor in
Occupational Therapy (BOT) from National Institute of Rehabilitation Training
and Research, Utkal University, Orissa in 2001.
Presently
he is working as Assisstant Professor- Senior scale in Dept. of Occupational
Therapy, Manipal College of Allied Health Sciences, Manipal University since
2009 and previously he has worked as Lecturer
in Dr.
D.Y. Patil Medical College , Kolhapur and as senior Occupational Therapist in
Arogyam Rehabilitation Clinic,Indore, MP and Vasant Valley School, New delhi. He has also been associated as guest faculty
with Indian Spinal Injury Centre (ISIC), New Delhi
He
has tremendous interest in designing and fabrication of splints. He
is having many year of experience in splint making and has more than 1000 splints to his credit. He has participated
as resource person at various national and state level conference in hand
splinting and has presented many innovative splints at national conference and
has also been awarded with best Splint award in 47th annual national
conference of All India Occupational Therapist Association (AIOTA) at Ahmedabad.
